Expedia, Inc. announced soaring second-quarter profits this week. Profits rose from $40.9 million one year ago to $114.3 for the quarter. Expedia attributed the higher profits to an increase in international business, which accounted for 33% of worldwide bookings.
Freddie Mac reported mortgage rates down for the sixth consecutive week with the 30-year and 15-year fixed-rate mortgages reaching record lows. The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage (FRM) averaged 4.54%, down from last week when it averaged 4.56%.
On a national media program on July 25, 2010, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner emphasized that the Obama administration plans to increase the tax rates for the top two brackets.
